5 good things (first attempt at making shortbread, plans for 2016 and cheesy Christmas music).

How is everyone doing? I am absolutely over the moon about the fact I slept in till 11:30am this morning and I have a whole day of blogging, stitching, Christmas shopping and Pug cuddles ahead of me before Paul finishes work and we have a lovely cosy night in. Weekends like this are good for the soul!

Things are slowly returning to normal now that the worst of my glandular fever is over but I am still tired all the time, so for me now the weekends are about maximising sleep activity and taking it steady with everything else.

I love writing these "5 good things" posts for a bit of a positivity boost and to fill you in on what I've been up to.

1) Not all my baking attempts are successful but my recent dabble with shortbread was a winner! The recipe only uses 3 ingredients so it was a doddle plus it's a cheap and simple way to make biscuits that taste blimmin' lovely (just don't think about the amount of butter in them). I thought I would make another batch this weekend perhaps with chocolate chips in? Be warned, if you know me you may be getting a tupperware box of shortbread very soon!

2) Lots and lots of plans for 2016 to look forward to! A weekend away to a cottage in Wales with Paul and the Pugs in January, going to the theatre to see Hairspray for my birthday in February, tickets for Busted's Sheffield concert in May, hopefully holidays to Berlin and New York, and a few trips to the Isle of Man to see baby Mabel. And that's just the start!

3) New candles. I can take or leave buying new makeup and beauty bits and bobs but give me a candle and I am all over it! Bath & Body Works candles will always be my favourite and "Sweater Weather" doesn't disappoint. Can anyone recommend a nice B&BW scent for a bedroom?

4) Putting a Christmas playlist together on Spotify and listening to it a hundred times before it's even December. I love Christmas. I love Christmas music. I am in my absolute element at this time of year!

5) 7 years with these guys. 'nuff said!

Shop local (Sheffield): Cocoa Wonderland.

One of the reasons I like living in Sheffield is the array of independent shops, cafes and restaurants there are to explore. I'm trying to make a conscious effort to support local businesses instead of automatically heading to the big department stores/chains for birthday and Christmas presents, greetings cards, tea and cake, etc, and what better way to kick off this series than talking about Cocoa Wonderland.

Not only is it a delightful haven for sitting down to have a luxurious hot chocolate and piece of cake, but there's also a shop counter at the front of the store that sells truffles and chocolate bars. They have a few dairy free offerings too, including dairy free advent calendars.

I picked up a box of 12 truffles for a present. The great thing is the boxes come in different sizes so you can pick whatever suits your budget. They had rum filled penguin truffles, champagne truffles, peppermint creams, pralines, you name it! I only wish I had popped a few extra onto my order for myself!

I would be delighted to receive a box of Cocoa Wonderland truffles as a present, or alternatively a gift voucher to pop back for tea and cake and a sit down, so if any of my friends and family are reading this you know where to go! ;)

Share the love: Cheerz photo printing!

I'm a massive fan of Instagram, I love having a place to store all of my favourite photos (and sticking a flattering filter over my mug is always a bonus) so when Cheerz got in touch with me about personalised products using Instagram photos (or indeed photos stored anywhere else, Facebook, your computer, etc) I was all ears!

I was lucky enough to be treated to a couple of things. I spent ages debating on what to try as they have a really good range of products. I love the La Boite a Photos box which comes with string, wooden pegs and photo corners for making displays to pop up around your home or desk. I think this would make a pretty fabulous gift or a neat idea for decorating a wedding venue.

The great thing about the website is the potential for buying gifts. For only £7.45 you can buy a box of 9 magnets for a friend using photos from their Instagram account. It's such a simple and cheap way of giving someone a really thoughtful gift. In the end I opted for a set of 9 magnets for myself, the only problem was narrowing it down to 9 photos when you take a gazillion photos of your dogs!

I am really pleased with the magnets which arrived in a display box along with a couple of freebies. I also ordered a square frame containing 4 prints (but you can also get larger frames with more photos). I wish my originals had been slightly better quality (that's what you get for taking only iPhone snaps on holiday) but it's still a lovely addition to the house and a sweet keepsake from our first holiday together.

I will definitely order something from Cheerz in the near future. It's a complete doddle to use, the prices and P&P are reasonable and there's a good range of products to choose from.

Life lately (brunch, babies and special baubles).

I love this time of year as it brings lots of festive nights out and cosy nights in. I've had a busy few weeks with lots more plans to squeeze in between now and the 22nd when I go to the Isle of Man for Christmas. I'm starting to feel fairly back to normal health wise (hurrah!) but I am conscious that I don't want to overdo it too much as I need to fit some exercise into my routine again at some point, and the way things are going I just don't have the time to! So tonight I am relaxing with the Pugs, a cup of tea and the telly and I may do a workout in the morning depending on how I feel when I wake up.

Last weekend was bloody wonderful. Not only did I get to see my gorgeous baby niece, Mabel, and my sister and brother in law (who were visiting from the Isle of Man) for a big family lunch but Paul had a rare weekend off so we managed to squeeze in some brunch, some Christmas shopping and I went to watch his band play (they're called Black Thunder Revue - you should check them out on Spotify if you're on there!)

Last Tuesday saw me and a couple of work friends go for a long overdue catch up, heading to Bill's in Sheffield for the first time. After a few drinks, an EPIC buttermilk chicken burger each and a good chinwag we headed home feeling full and fully up to date on each other's lives. It had been far too long since our last night out!

We decorated our Christmas tree last Wednesday evening (a real tree, at Paul's. I'm not bothering with one at my flat - bah humbug! ;)) and we had a perfect evening together combining our bauble collections, adding a couple of new ones; a delightfully tacky but wonderful fox that Paul picked up from Liberty of London when he had a flying visit to London last week, and a personalised bauble I got for us from a brilliant shop called Toasted Glass.

Once the tree was finished we settled down on the sofa with a bottle of cava and It's A Wonderful Life on the telly which is guaranteed to make me bawl my eyes out. I'm SO excited about our faux Christmas day on the 20th, it is going to be amazing!

Gift ideas (stocking filler Pug edition).

When I first adopted Lily and Lola I'm fairly certain you couldn't buy anything Pug themed in the shops like you can now. Everywhere I turn I see a Pug gracing a pair of socks or slippers or a mug. That being said, I do love having a few Puggy themed things dotted around my house and they're such easy gifts to buy the Pug owner in your life.

I have got together a few small items that would be make a great Secret Santa present or stocking filler, or perhaps a Christmas present to yourself. I'm permanently cold so the Pug shaped microwaveable "hottie" would be most welcome under the tree for me this year and I could definitely make good use of a stressball!

Christmas jumpers: my favourites!

With a Christmas jumper day at work and an invite to a festive party where a Christmas jumper is mandatory coming up, I realised my wardrobe is severely lacking in this department. So, for the past few weeks I've been scouring the internet for the best ones.

Finding a winner was quite easy this year as the first one I ordered was perfect! I ordered the Bah HumPug number (below) from Dorothy Perkins as it was on offer for less than £20 and I was pleasantly surprised. It's a really flattering fit, not shapeless like some festive jumpers can be, and it is obviously perfect for me with the Pug design. The sequins add some sparkle and pizazz and I can dress it up and down for both of my festive occasions.

It is running low on sizes online but if you like it I'm sure you could track it down in store!

As much as I love my Pug jumper though I do adore the Ellie Ellie jumpers from Not On The High Street; Full of Christmas Spirit and Prosecc-ho-ho-ho, amazing! They come in 4 different colours (slate grey, red, denim blue or coal black) with 4 size options, and you're bound to get plenty of "where did you get that from?" wearing one of these designs!

Bah Humpug jumper

I have had my eye on the Little Miss Christmas jumper for a while now, but it seems so has everyone else as sizes are running low on the Truffle Shuffle website. BUT it can be tracked down on eBay herehere and here and I also spotted it in a gift shop in Sheffield so it is out there!

Life lately (Christmas preparations and cute farm animals).

I am so ruddy excited for Christmas!!! I have been quite organised with my Christmas shopping this year, with just one tricky customer to buy for, and it's all waiting in a rather large pile to be wrapped. It may have to be a 'glass of prosecco in one hand, sellotape in the other' job for a rainy day, although saying that I've only got until the 22nd as that's when my parents and I hop on the ferry to go to the Isle of Man.

Last Saturday evening we went to a concert at Sheffield City Hall to see the Sheffield Philharmonic Chorus and the Black Dyke Band and it well and truly got me in the spirit of things. They were amazing, finishing with Oh Holy Night which is my favourite Christmas song (and may have triggered a tear or two!)

I am really looking forward to a faux Christmas Day this Sunday with Paul. We're opening presents in the morning, having a full Christmas dinner with all the trimmings, an evening buffet and lots of lots of fizz! It's going to be great. We just need to get the Sky planner filled up with festive films to keep us occupied when we're too stuffed to move. Lily and Lola will be there too, with their little reindeer outfits on (well, Lily will, Lola may be a tad too rotund for hers these days, hehe!)

The other weekend we went to Graves Park Farm so I thought I would illustrate this festive post with lots of non festive photos in the form of us and some rather cute animals. It was such a lovely afternoon. We had a walk round the farm and the park, and stopped at the cafe for some food (pie and peas, SO yummy!) and a coffee to warm our cockles. I love doing things like this on a weekend. Something simple with someone lovely. Perfect!

Merry Christmas from me (and Cornishware) to you! GIVEAWAY!

It's no secret that I am a massive fan of the blue and white Cornishware range. I used to collect it and had built up a fairly sizeable collection but sadly it is no more! So when the people at Cornishware asked me if I would like a couple of personalised mugs I said "yes please!" and the best bit is, two lucky readers of my blog will get two personalised mugs each! The two lucky people will get to pick the style of mug, the colour and the text of their choice.

I umm'd and ahh'd over whether to stick with the classic blue and white or go for something a bit different. I decided the other colours were far too pretty to resist, so I ordered violet (for me) and tin grey (for Paul) in the 12oz size. They are perfect! I love making us a brew now, it's just that little bit more spesh!

The possibilities are endless, you don't have to just stick with names. You could pick nicknames for you and your fella! Or give them as gifts for your "Mum", "Dad", "Sister", etc. Or go for a private joke to give you a chuckle every time you make a brew.

All you have to do to be in with a chance is complete the rafflecopter below. This giveaway is open to subscribers of Lily loves Lola only so if you don't subscribe pop on over to Bloglovin first (click here!). The only mandatory option is to leave a comment on this blog post telling me which mug, colours and text you would have printed on your two mugs. If you fancy some extra entries you can follow me on Twitter and Instagram, but no pressure!

On New Year's Day I will pick two winners at random and contact them both shortly after. Good luck everyone, and Merry Christmas!

Christmas 2015.

December 2015 has been just wonderful. Paul and I had our 'faux' Christmas Day on the 20th and, even though it was a Sunday and I had work the following day, it felt like a completely legit Christmas Day. It was ace! We swapped presents in the morning, cooked a turkey dinner with all the trimmings, wrapped up warm and took the dogs on a walk, and fell asleep on the sofa after dinner from all the festive food and fizz! It was perfect.

For the actual Christmas Day I was away to spend time with family. I sailed off to the Isle of Man on the 22nd until the 27th where I stayed with my sister and her husband, and my gorgeous baby niece. I got the ferry over with my parents which was an experience in itself but I just about managed to keep my lunch down!

I loved spending such a long stretch of time with my niece, and it was nice to be with family soaking in all the Christmas telly and going on lots of long walks with the pram. My sister and her husband went to so much effort to host a nice family Christmas. There was so much food/drink!

I am not back to work until the 4th of January so the plans for the remainder of my break are to spend time with Paul and the Pugs, relaxing as much as possible to shake off the last of this glandular fever. I've got a new book to get through, some cross stitching to finish, television to watch, and chocolates to plough through. Happy holidays indeed!

2015 summary.

I know everybody always says this but 2015 has bloody flown by hasn't it? For me it has been a real mixed bag of ups and downs. Ronan wasn't wrong when he sung about life being a rollercoaster was he?! I thought it would be nice to look back over the year however I didn't blog too much this year so it has been tricky to piece the months together. Note to self for 2016: must blog more than once a month!

January
In January I made lots of important decisions which would shape the rest of my year. I packed my things up ready to move house. I started studying for my HR qualifications. And I was ready for a fresh start!

February
February was the month I moved from Rotherham to Sheffield to live with my friend, who was also going through a break-up. I set myself a few goals (here) and I managed to smash them all! I really got into going to the gym. I learnt how to cook meals for myself that weren't beans on toast. This was the start of the new more confident and independent Victoria. I turned 30 in this month too! And I changed my hair from full blonde highlights to ombre (and loved it!)

March
March saw the build-up to my skydive which I had signed up to do in April, for Rain Rescue (a South Yorkshire animal charity). Lola needed an operation to remove some stones from her bladder. I started to explore Sheffield (here) and got settled in my new house (here) and started going out a lot more. The hermit was no more!

April
April consisted of going up and down the motorway to see my mum and dad in Leeds every weekend. I got back into cross stitching and was on the look-out for a new big project to start. I did my skydive which was amazing, terrifying and mind-boggling, and left me feeling incredibly proud of myself for doing something so far from my comfort zone. I also raised a lot of money for charity. Hurrah!

May
May was tough! My housemate was away for a large chunk of the month so I spent a lot of time alone, which probably wasn't a wise idea! I ended May with a visit to the Isle of Man to see my sister (here), which was lovely. While I was there I ordered a cross stitch kit for a sampler which would be a gift to my niece when she was born, and I got cracking with some stitching. I also got my nose pierced there! And I got a few pep talks from my sister ("PMA = Positive Mental Attitude") and I tried to focus on the positives instead of feeling sorry for myself.

June
In June I reached 4000 subscribers on Bloglovin' and I am grateful for every single one of you. I got into running in a big way and managed to run 5k non stop for the first time ever, after years of trying! And in other news I went on a date on the 22nd June and met the man I would fall in love with shortly afterwards, so I guess you could say things started to look up from this month! That PMA stuff seemed to be working!

July
Sadly in July I had to move out of the house with my friend as she was selling up, so after 6 months of living together we waved goodbye to our daily gossip sessions, wine and Dominos evenings, and being able to share clothes, jewellery and hair products. I was heading out to live alone (with the Pugs of course) from the end of July. The end of an era but the start of another. Learning to live alone!

August
This is the month I got Glandular bloody Fever, although I didn't know it was that at the time. I started to experience hot sweaty flushes, sore glands in my neck, and fatigue, but it would come and go and I put it down to being run down. Little did I know it would hang around for the remainder of the year and try to ruin everything! In between feeling poorly we celebrated Paul's birthday by heading for an overnight stay at Titanic Spa (here) which was wonderful. But most importantly, on the last day of the month... MY NIECE WAS BORN! Mabel Lucy came into the world at a very healthy 8lb 1oz and I could not wait to meet her!

September
I popped over to the Isle of Man for one weekend in September to meet Mabel. She was so tiny and precious. I enjoyed two days of cuddles and important Auntie duties before heading home to get ready for a week in the sunshine with Paul. At the end of September we went to Lanzarote (here) where we spent a week doing nothing but sunbathing, eating, drinking, reading and sleeping. It was bliss! It was our first holiday together and the first of many more!

October
October was the month my Glandular Fever hit me like a ton of bricks. I was really struggling to do anything and a full week of work would wipe me out, leaving me unable to move or speak. I was in a real pickle! After a lot of to-ing and fro-ing to the doctors some blood tests confirmed what it was. I was relieved that I wasn't going crazy but devastated because there's no treatment for it. It was one of those things I would just have to ride out. I had to take most of October off work as I was massively poorly and all I did was rest, rest and rest!

November
November was all about taking one day at a time, trying not to overdo it. I dabbled in a bit of baking and had the energy to do things like housework again. I tried to focus on the little things that made me happy (here) and focussed on getting better.

December
And here we are, the end of the year! December has been all about Christmas shopping and counting down to a 2 week break from work in the hopes that it will get my health back on track. I am in the process of moving my things to Paul's house so from January we will be living together and I just can't wait! There couldn't be a more perfect way to end the year.

I am SO ready for 2016. A full year with Paul. Moving in together. Weekends away. Planning holidays (New York next December hopefully!) Lots of time with the Pugs, going on some nice walks and exploring new places. Getting back into exercise. Seeing family. And being happy/content.

Current beauty favourites (Burt's Bees, Bumble & Bumble, Pro-voke, Lush, Soap & Glory, Clinique).

Burt's Bees almond and milk hand cream
This little beauty has to go at the top of this list. I got this hand cream for Christmas, in a gift-set with a lip balm, and I was really excited to use it having not tried much from Burt's Bees before. I get through hand cream like nobody's business due to my extremely dry hands as a result of excessive hand washing. I even have prescription eczema cream that I use when things get really bad, but this hand cream blows that out of the water. It leaves my hands feeling super soft, it banishes the dry patches between my fingers, it lasts for ages even through hand washing, and it smells frickin' amazing! 10/10!

LUSH 'Santa' lip scrub
It's probably slightly redundant including this item in my list because I assume it's only available in the run up to Christmas BUT it's worth keeping it in mind when it rolls around at the end of this year. I have tried a Lush lip scrub before but found it a little dry, however the formula of the Santa version seems much improved. It's cola flavoured which is just yum. I use this after doing my make-up to get rid of any foundation on my lips then I pop a lip balm on over the top and the end result is a lovely-looking pout!

Bumble & Bumble Invisible Oil shampoo
I got through a couple of bottles of this shampoo when it was first released and I loved it. I love the Invisible Oil oil/serum so I had high hopes for the shampoo and conditioner - I wasn't disappointed. It leaves my hair feeling really clean, without feeling too 'stripped', and the lengths feel smoother and sleeker. It also leaves my colour looking fresh, even though it's not a colour preserving shampoo. I got a fresh bottle of this shampoo and the conditioner for Christmas - hurrah! I will be making it last as it's not cheap! But it's definitely worth it.

This is by far the best purple shampoo I have used for my blonde highlights. My blonde colour can easily start to look 'warm' instead of the cool white tones I prefer, but leaving this shampoo on for 5 to 10 minutes once a week brings the colour back to how I like it. I find purple shampoos quite drying but this one isn't too bad, as long as I use a good moisturising conditioner afterwards. It's only a few quid and well worth it!

Soap & Glory 'Love at First Blush' blusher
I acquired this by chance when I bought a couple of bits from Soap & Glory and received a free gift containing this blusher. It has ended up becoming a firm favourite of mine, and I use it every day. I have received a couple of nice compliments while wearing it as it gives me such a nice glow. I am rather happy I discovered this by accident! It's definitely the best blusher I have tried.

This is my all time favourite mascara, which I discovered earlier this year when my friend recommended it to me. I have got quite small eyes and stubby lashes so any mascaras with a big wand leave me with mascara all over my eye lids. Not a good look! The High-Lengths mascara has a small comb-style wand which is perfect for me. It lengths and separates my lashes a treat! I popped this on my Christmas list and Santa didn't disappoint. I have tried so many other mascaras but this is the only one for me.

Have you tried any of these products? What's your current beauty fave?

5 good things (moving in and moving on!)

This week has been an emotional rollercoaster! The stress of moving house for the third time in 12 months has really got to me and I can feel my glandular fever flaring up AGAIN. It's just a saga now. I'm hoping a peaceful Friday night and plenty of sleep over the weekend will see me right. Otherwise I'm wondering if I can have a new body please, one that works properly?!

I just worked out that, after living in the same house from birth to being roughly 24 years old, I have moved ten times. TEN TIMES. Ten times in 6 years is quite frankly ridiculous. It's no wonder I always feel unsettled and anxious! No wonder at all. I am ready for this new start, ready to get nice and settled with Lily and Lola, and ready to make lots of new memories with Paul, who really is the bees knees.

I love writing 5 good things posts so here's one for your viewing pleasure! Let me know if you do these posts, I'd love to have a nosy.

1) Yesterday the tenancy on my flat ended and I handed my keys back. I got confirmation that I would get my full bond back (see - having dogs in a rental property isn't so bad is it! Hmppff!) and I spent the day sorting out all my bills and whatnot. It is such a huge relief to have my belongings moved and to be living in one place, as opposed to hopping between Paul's house and my flat (and him doing the same!) I am really excited to be living with Paul, it feels like home already.

2) A trip to IKEA on Sunday for new furniture! (and meatballs!)

3) A spot of pampering. Yesterday I toddled off to The Salon on Ecclesall Road (Sheffield) for a microdermabrasion facial as they're amazing for my acne scarring and I felt like I deserved a treat. The treatment was great - I just wish I had booked in for more! I left feeling relaxed and promised myself I would do it more often.
4) A clean bill of health for the Puggies. They had their boosters last week and apart from dodgy eyesight and Lily's poorly paw they are doing well for their age! They are turning into old ladies now but I can't think about that too much..!

5) Blog plans. It has been difficult to blog over the past year or so, with everything going on and no fixed abode, so now that things are settling down I plan to blog a LOT more. We have a lot of plans over the next few months and I plan to share it all with you guys.

A long weekend in Wales (part one).

Last weekend we started January as we mean to go on by heading off on a little adventure with the Pugs to Wales. As I didn't get to spend Christmas with Paul or the Pugs we decided to book somewhere for the four of us for the new year and the criteria was simple - must take dogs and must have a hot tub. Our search didn't bring up too many options but that's okay, the cottage we found was a real gem! We stayed here, a traditional cottage near the beach at Llanon in Ceredigion.

Our stay was exactly what we both needed (although staying one more night would have been the icing on the cake!) It was the perfect size for the two of us and Lily and Lola, decorated in a shabby chic style with nautical touches here and there. The cottage consisted of an open kitchen/dining/living room space, a double bedroom with en suite (complete with a 'bath with legs'), a small outside space, and a hot tub at the back of the cottage. The living area has a log burning fire which really enhances the cosy feel of the cottage (and it kept Paul out of mischief as he was determined to keep it burning for more than 5 minutes!)

We didn't do a whole lot of exploring, apart from a couple of walks to the beach with the dogs and a brief visit to Aberystwyth (props to me for spelling that right first time without cheating!), because our cottage was so homely and it felt such a shame to leave it. We were happy to spend all our time there; watching telly, reading, sleeping, cooking, drinking, and of course, trying out the hot tub. I could seriously get used to having a glass of fizz in a hot tub of an evening looking up at the stars and chatting away with such good company.

It was a long old drive for us from Sheffield so if/when we go back (which we would love to) we will stay for 3 or 4 nights instead of 2 to really make the most of it. That way we would get a bit more time to explore the nearby areas and take the dogs out on some more adventures. It's not often they get to paddle in the sea!

If you have stayed in any dog-friendly holiday homes/cottages that aren't too far from Yorkshire please do let me know!

My nose piercing story and advice.

I got my nose pierced last year (May to be precise) after umm-ing and ahh-ing about it for ages. With lots of changes going on in my life I felt like I was finding myself more and more as time went on (as cheesy as that sounds!) and I felt like part of that change was to bite the bullet and get the piercing that I wanted so badly.

With my big sister holding my hand I went for it and got it done at a tattoo/piercing shop over on the Isle of Man while I was visiting her. We did our research and found lots of positive reviews for the shop in question so we had a walk across town to have a nosy.

I thought I would do a blog post about my experience because I had so.many.damn.problems with my piercing for the first 4 - 5 months. I have always been fairly good at healing and didn't have any problems with my ear piercings when I was younger but my nose was a different kettle of fish. At one point I felt like it would never heal, especially on the day where luminous pus was flowing out of it *sorry if you're eating at this moment in time*..

So here it is, a bit of advice if you're having problems with your nose piercing. If you're thinking about getting it done please don't let this post put you off. Even after the problems I encountered I don't regret having it done, I love it! It was definitely worth the hassle.

- Everyone heals at different speeds so don't worry if your piercing hasn't healed in the time the shop stated it would. I messed with my piercing far too much when I first got it and it took 5 months for it to fully heal and to stop getting infected, whereas I have seen other people changing their studs regularly after just a couple of weeks. You will know best if it feels/looks healed. If it doesn't just leave it be until it is. Be patient!

- If you get a lump next to your stud, like I did, pop to a local piercing shop to get professional advice. I googled what my lump was, doing a spot of self-diagnoses, but I got it completely wrong so all the treatments I tried didn't work. When I got a pro to look at it they told me it was a build up of fluid and that I should compress it using boiled water on cotton wool. Once I started doing that it worked a treat! Before that I had tried things like tea tree oil and aspirin paste with no luck.

- Keep it clean but don't over clean it. I would clean mine in one of two ways. The quick way was simply dipping a cotton bud stick into boiled water with rock salt then cleaning the inside and outside of my nose. Or I would pop some boiled water with rock salt in a small bowl and, once the water had cooled enough, submerge my nose in it. I found this reduced the swelling on the inside of my nostril as well as cleaning the outside. At one point I was doing this cleaning routine far too often as I was obsessed with getting it to heal. Once I had found a happy medium with the cleaning malarkey things looked and felt much better.

- Don't touch it with dirty hands. My sister will laugh at this one as she was always telling me off for twizzling my stud without washing my hands first, but it's easily done when you don't realise you're doing it.

- Once it has healed and you want to change the stud but you don't feel confident doing so, go to a professional who will sort it for you.

- When it's new and you're not used to it being there try to be conscious of it when pulling clothes over your head, or wearing a scarf that could get caught in it, or picking your nose ;) I knocked mine a few times in the early days, forgetting it was there. I felt like I would never get used to having a nose piercing but now I don't even think about it! I forget it's there most of the time.

- Enjoy it :)

A long weekend in Wales (part two).

Read part one here!

These photos were all taken in or around our beautiful little cottage which we hardly left and wanted to live in! It was a delightfully cosy place which we would love to go back to with the Pugs for another (longer) trip some day.

This is the first time I've been away with the dogs and it was wonderful. We took them down to the beach which was next to our cottage, navigating over puddles and lifting them over the cobbles to have a splash in the sea. It must have been freezing on their tootsies so we didn't stay out too long, but it was lovely to be out and about with no one else around. Just Paul. And my fur babies. What more do I need! ♥

Going for the chop....again.

This time last year I had just cut my hair super short and LOVED it. It was in a short graduated bob with a few long layers, inspired by Julianne Hough who has the best hair ever. I grew it a little and then it stayed around my shoulders for a while and looked great with a bit of volume and wave to it, but then I decided to grow it. Because I always forget that Victoria + long hair = rats tails and no volume. So the vicious cycle of growing/cutting began again!

Last week I got it cut back into a shoulder length bob but without layers this time. Apparently it's trendy to have a really square bob, so I'm fashionable for once in my life! Ha! It feels so healthy and thick, and I am loving being able to get volume and messiness back into my hair again. I am also looking forward to all the time I will save on washing and drying.

I'm sticking with the ombre colour for now, as I love being blonde but don't love having regrowth after a week. Last week I had a lowlight put through to break up the blonde a little bit and I'm really pleased with it.

I'm definitely going to keep it short for a while now, I may even go a bit shorter next time once I'm used to it. Nothing like a new hair do for the start of a new year!

5 good things (burning candles, button up skirts and finding the balance!)

I am heading into a mammoth blog and YouTube catch up but before I do I thought a quick update was in order to let you guys know what's going well for me at the moment. I had a really crap day yesterday as I felt so unwell and was feeling massively sorry for myself when I got home from work, and my evening was a total write-off, but today was a new day and much more positive, so I'm hoping the week continues in that fashion.

Here they are, my 5 good things!

1) I feel like I am finally getting somewhere with the doctors in relation to my health issues. This morning I had what felt like half the blood in my body taken to have a full screen of blood tests, the results of which I will get on Monday. If they're all fine I will be referred to a specialist centre to be treated for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, which is just utterly shit. But at least I will be heading in the right direction of ways I can improve my body and mind!

2) Finding the balance. For the first time in a long time I have stopped obsessing over calories, and tracking percentages of carbs and protein and fat, and worrying about the bits that wobble, and being too restrictive. It feels totally liberating to just eat what my body fancies and not deny myself anything which then leads to an obsession over that thing. I just need to be well enough to exercise again and I'll be laughing!

3) New Bath & Body Works candles. My American friend Amy recently sent me a box of goodies including a heap of mini B&BW candles which all smell uh-ma-zing and are currently filling our house with scents of pumpkin and waffles and vanilla and other such delights. Thanks Amy!!

4) Finding a skirt in the sale that fits and subsequently deciding it's your favourite-est skirt ever and wearing it all the time. Not so fun when you catch it on the edge of a table in a busy restaurant and all the poppers come undone though!

5) I've got the afternoon off tomorrow for a bit of a midweek break with Paul, Lily and Lola and I am so ready for it. A bit of quality time with those guys always perks me right up.

Link me to your current "good things" if you've blogged about them!

Healthy Oat Blueberry Banana muffins (Nic's Nutrition).

I've been quiet on the baking front recently but now that I'm fully moved in with Paul and settled in, and enjoying having a lovely big kitchen, I decided to give some healthy baking a go last weekend. For healthy baking I usually turn to Nic's Nutrition because her recipes are ace. I made her oat and blueberry banana muffins as I already had most of the ingredients in the cupboard so I only needed to pop out for a couple of bits.

For my first attempt I think they came out okay! I'm not sure if my measurements for the "wet" ingredients were quite right and the texture of the muffins are more scone-like than muffin-y, but they're really tasty and were a hit with Paul too!

I have been struggling with my appetite recently, and I feel nauseous most mornings, so breakfast as soon as I wake up isn't always an option. It has been really handy popping a muffin or two in my handbag to eat at my desk with my morning cuppa mid-morning. They came out in a variety of sizes so I find a couple of small ones or one big one would suffice! They're full of oats to keep you full plus other yummy ingredients like honey, cinnamon, bananas and blueberries.

I plan to make these again very soon, but I wouldn't mind getting my hands on a silicone muffin tray to make them look more uniform in shape and equal in size #saddoalert

Any other breakfast muffin recipes would be gratefully received!

Life lately (turning 31, throwing shapes and a trip to the theatre).

I've been busy over the last couple of weeks, mainly getting older and celebrating that fact with my friends and family. It's truly been my best birthday yet. I have been thinking back to my 30th birthday and how different my life was then. A lot can change in 12 months, that's for sure. I might not have had glandular fever this time last year but I wouldn't change how things are now for anything!

I've been spoilt with so many lovely gifts, and I feel very lucky indeed, not to mention having a song written and performed for me by my hugely talented and massively dishy boyfriend. I may have cried a little. Okay, a LOT. It was epic!

We had an amazing 3 course meal at Silversmiths on the evening of my birthday, just the two of us. Much more low-key than my 30th birthday was (i.e. no tequila) but absolutely perfect. We chatted the night away; making plans for the future and talking about how much good stuff we've got to look forward to. I've been to Silversmiths 3 or 4 times before and it never disappoints. The food is insanely good and our waitress was lovely.

Last weekend I combined supporting my boyfriend's band at the o2 Academy with an opportunity to get dressed up and have a night out with a couple of good friends of mine. It's one of the best nights out I've had in ages! I danced until my feet protested and until Subway called our names. The band were on top form, as always. If you like good music you should definitely give them a listen - link!

Last night saw the last of my birthday celebrations at the Lyceum theatre. I mentioned aaages ago that I wanted to see Hairspray as it's one of my favourite films, so Paul picked up tickets as a surprise. The show was amazing; I don't think I stopped smiling the whole time. I also haven't stopped singing since, much to the annoyance of everyone around me. I definitely don't go to the theatre enough especially to see musicals. Such good fun!

Best.birthday.ever.! You know, apart from the being 31 bit. Cheers! x

A "perfect" day.

After a fairly disastrous day yesterday (involving one very poorly Puggy throwing up in the middle of a packed cafe where everyone was tucking into their lunch) today has been much better. Being hopeless romantics all year round, Valentine's Day is just another excuse to tell each other how much we love each other. We're either psychic or have exceptional taste because we bought each other the same card. Brilliant!

After a lie-in and a spot of brunch we've been relaxing at home with the dogs. Paul is currently having his pre-night-shift nap so I'm binge watching Tattoo Fixers, hugging a hot water bottle, drinking tea, blogging and eating Thornton's truffles. Perfection itself. When Paul wakes up we're going to make a lovely big dinner before he heads off to work. We are fully stocked up on Waitrose goodies!

Last year I spent Valentine's Day with my housemate and a big ole hangover so a more chilled out, loved-up, hangover-free vibe this year has been wonderful.
